The eVisitor visa can be used for several trips of up to 90 days (3 months) with one of the following purposes:
- Tourism
- Leisure
- Friends or relatives visit
- Business meetings, conferences, and courses
Please note that German citizens are not eligible to enter Australia visa-free and cannot obtain a visa on arrival. Therefore, they must be able to show a valid Australian visa at the border crossing.
Are German citizens allowed to work with an Australian eVisitor visa?
No. The Australian eVisitor visa does not permit paid work in the country. Short voluntary work is allowed on an eVisitor visa, as long as it is not the main reason for travelling to Australia.
German nationals who wish to work for an Australian employer should contact the nearest Australian embassy or consulate to obtain a corresponding visa. They can apply for either a working visa, or a working holiday visa for travellers under the age of 31.
Australia's eVisitor Visa Requirements for German Passport Holders
German citizens travelling to Australia must meet eVisitor visa requirements for Germany before they can start the application process.
German nationals travelling with children should process a separate eVisitor visa application for each child, including babies.
Documents required from Germans to get an Australian eVisitor
German passport holders must have the following documents in order to apply for an Australian eVisitor:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months after application, with at least one blank page for entry stamps
- An email address to receive the eVisitor
- A valid debit or credit card to pay the visa processing fee online
Furthermore, an Australian eVisitor visa from Germany is not transferable between passports. If the passport used to apply expires before the return from Australia, the candidate must renew it prior to filling out the visa application form.
COVID-related requirements from Germans to enter Australia
The Australian Government has implemented several extraordinary travel restrictions due to coronavirus pandemics.
Travellers from Germany may be asked to present a negative COVID-19 test and health declaration forms upon entering the country.
Processing time to obtain the eVisitor visa from Germany
The normal processing time for the Australian eVisitor visa for Germany is up to 24 hours. In some cases, applicants may have to wait longer, especially if there are any mistakes in the registration form.
After submitting the form, candidates will receive an email with a copy of the application and the payment receipt. They can follow the status of their application online, using the tracking number provided in the email.
The validity of the Australian eVisitor visa for Germans
The Australian eVisitor for Germany is valid for one year. It allows multiple entries of a maximum of 90 days (3 months) each.
German travellers can extend their electronic visa from outside of Australia two weeks before its expiry date.
Please note that overstaying the Australian visa is against the law. It can result in fines, immigration detention and having to immediately leave the country.
